外研版高一英语必修二第三单元听力原文Module 3Listeningand Vocabulary(Students’ book : P26)The Beatles werethe most successful band in the history of popular music. The band consisted ofJohn Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Starr playeddrums, the other three played guitar. Lennon and McCartney wrote most of thesongs. All the Beatles were born in Liverpool in the north of England.During the early1960s, the Beatles were influenced by American rock singers, such as ChuckBerry and Elvis Presley. They had their first hit in 1962 with a catchy songcalled Love Me Do (1962). In 1964, after they had become stars in theirown country, the Beatles toured the United States and were a huge success.During themid-1960s, the Beatles were one of the bands which gave rock music a newdirection. Some of their songs were quite serious, such as Nowhere Man;there were ballads such as Yesterday and more complex songs such as StrawberryFields Forever.By the late1960s, their music had changed completely. They had stopped writing simplesongs with catchy tunes. The tunes and the lyrics had become more interestingand they had begun to use new instruments, too. For example, after visitingIndia, they started using Indian instruments.Some of theiralbums changed pop music completely. Their last album was Let It Be in1970.After they hadfinished recording Let It Be, they split up. By the time they stoppedworking together, they had sold more albums than any other band in history.After the group had broken up, all the Beatles performed as solo artists orstarted other bands.John Lennon diedin New York in 1980. George Harrison died in 2001.

三、genius

1、含义：n. 天才；天赋。

2、用法

作名词可表示“天才，才能”。genius的“天才”语气较强，是较为高尚的用语，主要指在智力方面具有极其特殊和非凡的能力，含有独创和创造的意味,尤指在艺术或科学方面从而大大超过不同时代的人。

名词表示人的“能力，才能”之意。genius语气最强，指天赋的高度才能与智力。

He makes much account of her musical genius.

他重视她的音乐天才。

He is a mathematical genius.

他是一个数学天才。

四、east

英 [iːst] 　  美 [iːst]

adj. 东方的

adv. 向东方

n. 东方；东部

1、east的基本意思是“东，东方”，指与西方相对的一个特定的方向，即日出的方向。

2、east可与介词at， in， on， to等搭配，表示“位于…的东方”。

3、east用作主语时一般用作专有名词，首字母常大写。

4、east用作形容词时的意思是“东方的，向东方的”，指某人或某事处于在东部或趋向于东方的状态。

5、east在句中只能用作定语,无比较级和最高级形式。

五、omit

英 [ə'mɪt]  美 [ə'mɪt]

vt. 省略；遗漏；忘记；删去
